eSIM Compatibility Checker

Not every phone supports eSIM, and support can vary by the exact model, carrier, or country you bought it in. Here's how to check for certain — plus up-to-date model lists for every major brand, from Apple and Samsung to Xiaomi, Motorola, and more.

Works on any phone, any brand

The universal check: dial *#06#

This works on any phone, any brand, regardless of whether it appears in the lists below. Open your phone's dialer and enter *#06#. If an EID (Embedded Identity Document) number shows up alongside your IMEI, your phone has an eSIM chip and can use an eSIM — no matter what brand or model it is.

iPhone
iPhone: Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data) → Add eSIM
Android
Most Android phones: Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Add eSIM

If you don't see an "Add eSIM" option at all, your specific unit most likely doesn't support it — carrier-locked and region-specific units sometimes have eSIM disabled even on an otherwise-compatible model.

Verified by brand

Apple, Samsung, and Google publish their own official compatibility lists — those entries come straight from the manufacturer. The other brands are compiled from up-to-date industry compatibility data (last checked August 2026), and support there often depends on region or carrier — the *#06# check above is always the definitive answer for your exact unit.

A

Apple iPhone

iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, or later — every iPhone released since 2018 supports eSIM.

  • iPhone XS, XS Max, XR
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation)
  • iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (3rd generation)

  • iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, 16e
  • iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, 17e
  • iPhone Air

iPhone 13 models and later also support two active eSIMs at once (Dual SIM with two eSIMs), not just one eSIM plus a physical SIM.

In China mainland, only the iPhone Air and iPhone 17e support eSIM — every other China-mainland iPhone model uses two physical nano-SIM slots instead. In Hong Kong and Macao, certain models are also physical dual-SIM only.

Cellular iPads support eSIM too: iPad (7th generation and later), iPad Air (3rd gen+), iPad mini (5th gen+), iPad Pro 11" (1st gen+), and iPad Pro 12.9" (3rd gen+).

S

Samsung Galaxy

Most flagship Galaxy S and Z series phones from the last several years support eSIM — coverage is narrower on budget A-series models.

  • Galaxy XCover7, XCover7 Pro
  • Galaxy Tab S10 FE 5G, Tab S11 5G, Tab S11 Ultra 5G

eSIM support can still depend on which country or carrier a specific unit was sold through, even for a listed model — Samsung's own guidance is to check the exact unit's spec page under Network/Bearer → SIM Size for "Embedded-SIM" before relying on the model name alone.

  • Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL
  • Pixel Fold, Pixel Fold 2

Pixel 3a: units bought with Verizon service, or bought in Japan, don't support eSIM.

Pixel 3: only units bought with Sprint or Google Fi service (in the US/Canada) support eSIM; units bought in Australia, Taiwan, or Japan don't.

Pixel 2: only units bought with Google Fi service support eSIM.

This list isn't exhaustive — if your device isn't here, the *#06# EID check above is still the definitive answer.

Frequently asked questions

What is an EID number?

An EID (Embedded Identity Document) is a unique identifier built into every eSIM-capable device's chip. Dialing *#06# reveals it if your phone has an eSIM — this works on any brand, not just the ones listed on this page.

My phone isn't listed above — does that mean it doesn't support eSIM?

Not necessarily. The lists above cover the brands with reliable published compatibility data, but they aren't exhaustive, and new eSIM-capable models ship constantly. Dial *#06# to check your specific device directly — if an EID shows up, it supports eSIM regardless of whether it appears in any list.

Does eSIM work with any mobile carrier?

Your phone needs eSIM hardware, and the eSIM provider needs to support issuing eSIM profiles. Most travel eSIM data plans work independently of your home carrier, since they connect to local networks abroad rather than your existing plan.

Can I use an eSIM and my physical SIM at the same time?

On most eSIM-compatible phones, yes — you can keep your regular SIM active for calls and texts while a travel eSIM handles data, or run two active lines at once depending on your phone's Dual SIM support.

My phone model is listed as compatible, but I don't see the option to add an eSIM — why?

Some units of an otherwise-compatible model have eSIM disabled by the carrier or region they were sold in — a locked or carrier-specific unit can behave differently from the unlocked global version of the same phone. The *#06# check is the most reliable way to confirm your exact unit.
