1. Cox's Bazar
Cox's Bazar is widely described as the longest natural sea beach in the world, a sandy shoreline running for roughly 120 kilometres along the Bay of Bengal. It is Bangladesh's most popular domestic holiday destination, and the drive south along the Marine Drive towards Inani Beach runs between the sea and green hills.
2. The Sundarbans
Shared with India, the Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest in the world, a maze of tidal rivers and islands at the mouth of the Ganges delta. The Bangladeshi part is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the Bengal tiger, spotted deer, and saltwater crocodiles. Most visitors explore it on multi-day boat trips starting from Khulna or Mongla.
3. Srimangal
Often called the tea capital of Bangladesh, Srimangal in the Sylhet division is surrounded by rolling tea estates where you can walk between the rows of bushes. Nearby Lawachara National Park is one of the places to see the endangered western hoolock gibbon, and local tea stalls serve the town's famous layered 'seven-colour' tea.
4. Lalbagh Fort
In the old part of Dhaka, Lalbagh Fort is a 17th-century Mughal complex begun in 1678 by Prince Muhammad Azam, a son of Emperor Aurangzeb, and never completed. Within its gardens stand a three-domed mosque, an audience hall, and the tomb of Pari Bibi, and it remains one of the capital's most visited historic sites.
5. Ahsan Manzil
Known as the Pink Palace, Ahsan Manzil stands on the bank of the Buriganga River in Old Dhaka and was once the residence of the Nawabs of Dhaka. Completed in the 1870s, the domed building is now a museum displaying the family's furniture, portraits, and the history of the city.
6. Sajek Valley
High in the Rangamati Hill District of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, Sajek Valley is known for sweeping views over green hills that are often wrapped in cloud in the early morning. It is home to several indigenous communities and has become a popular spot for hilltop cottages. 7. Paharpur (Somapura Mahavihara)
The ruins of Somapura Mahavihara at Paharpur, in the north of the country, belong to one of the largest Buddhist monasteries south of the Himalayas, founded in the 8th century under the Pala king Dharmapala. Its huge central brick temple once rose above more than 170 monks' cells, and the site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.
