Best eSIM for Tajikistan

Tajikistan is built for travellers who like their roads high and their views enormous — the Pamir Highway climbing past 4,000 metres, the turquoise Iskanderkul lake, the Fann Mountains' seven lakes, the Wakhan Valley looking across the river into Afghanistan, and the wide boulevards of Dushanbe at either end of it. It's also a place where staying connected takes a little planning: mobile coverage is good in the cities and patchy-to-absent on the most remote mountain stretches, and home-carrier roaming here is usually very expensive. We checked live pricing across 96 providers we track for Tajikistan, and a realistic week-plus plan currently starts at $3.97 from 4S eSIM. Here's where the real value is, and what to expect once you leave the capital.

Quick-answer picks

Airalo is the best-known brand in this list, though you pay for the name here: 1GB for 3 days at $7.50, 3GB for 7 days at $19.00 and 5GB for 30 days at $32.00. Worth it mainly if you already use the Airalo app and value having every trip's eSIM in one place.

Why prices vary this much

Tajikistan is a small and relatively expensive market for eSIM providers, and the wholesale rates they pay vary a lot depending on which local network they partner with and how they package the country. Some providers sell a dedicated Tajikistan plan at a local-style price; others only reach it through a regional or global bundle, which can be either a bargain (when the bundle is priced on the average of many cheaper countries) or very expensive (when Tajikistan is treated as a premium roaming destination). That's why you'll see 1GB priced anywhere from a few dollars to several times that in the live table below.

Short day-passes are especially poor value here — you pay a high fixed cost for 24 hours. For almost any real trip, a 7-day or 30-day plan works out far cheaper per day. And if you're not sure how much data you'll actually use in the mountains, our data usage guide gives realistic numbers for maps, messaging and photo uploads.

Which plan fits your trip

  • A few days in Dushanbe: eSIMo's 1GB/7-day plan at $3.90.
  • A week in the Fann Mountains or around Iskanderkul: Ubigi's 3GB/15-day plan at $8.00 or Global YO's 3GB/15-day plan at $6.99.
  • Two to four weeks on the Pamir Highway: Global YO's 10GB/30-day plan at $13.99 — plenty for the stretches where you do have signal, and you won't need to top up.
  • Heavy use or a shared hotspot in the cities: Maya Mobile's unlimited 7-day plan at $19.99.
  • A long stay, mostly on Wi-Fi: Yesim's 1GB/30-day plan at $3.55.
  • A Central Asia loop through several countries: Yatelo's 10GB/30-day plan at $17.44, after checking the plan's coverage list for every country on your route.

A few things worth knowing before you buy

Coverage in Dushanbe, Khujand and the other larger towns is generally good, and the main roads between them usually have at least some signal. The Pamirs are different: long stretches of the Pamir Highway, the Bartang Valley and parts of the Wakhan Corridor have little or no mobile coverage at all, whatever eSIM you buy, because the networks simply haven't built out there. Treat mobile data as a bonus in the high mountains, not something to depend on — download offline maps, save your guesthouse bookings and route notes, and tell someone your plans before heading into remote areas.

A travel eSIM is usually data-only, so you won't get a local Tajik phone number. That's fine for WhatsApp and Telegram, which are widely used in Tajikistan, but if a guesthouse or driver needs to call you on a local number, a registered local SIM is still the simpler option — and most dual-SIM phones can run a local SIM and an eSIM side by side.

Install your eSIM at home over Wi-Fi before you fly, and turn it on when you land. Check each plan's activation rule — some start the validity clock on first connection to a network in Tajikistan, others on installation. If this is your first eSIM, our beginner's guide to how eSIMs work covers installation and activation from scratch, and our compatibility guide will tell you whether your phone supports one.

If Tajikistan is one stop on a longer Central Asia trip, price each country separately or use our multi-country trip planner to find a plan that genuinely covers your whole route.
